About Rydal

One of the highlights of the year is “Daffodils at Rydal”. An annual event held in the 2nd and 3rd weekend of September to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Thousands of daffodils have been planted in the parks and gardens of Rydal which is named after the English village of Rydal home for many years of the poet William Wordsworth, famous for his poem “The Daffodils”. Visit the events page for more details about Daffodils at Rydal.

Each year on the first Saturday in February Rydal plays host to the biggest little show in the west. The Rydal Show held at the Rydal Showground is a real country show, with horses, dogs, cattle, sheep, wood chopping, yard dog trials and traditional cooking and craft competitions and exhibitions. Rydal Facts

150kms from Sydney, approximately two and half hours by car. XPT arrives daily from Sydney at 10.00 am and departs for Sydney at 5.58 pm. It must be prebooked to stop at Rydal.

There is a school bus to Lithgow.

Altitude: 1100 metres above sea level.
Weather: Rydal experiences the four seasons, though the high altitude often reduces the summer heat. Winter can bring snow.

The village of Rydal is located 15 minutes from Lithgow and 45 minutes east of Bathurst. It is set in a lovely little valley with rural, farmland countryside. The Rydal Heritage Walk is a great way to see the village and discover its history.

Rydal has a population of about 80 - more people live on surrounding farm properties. There is a hotel and two churches but no shops. The nearest shops are at Wallerawang about 10 minutes drive away.
